Fire
Consultation period ends
Warwickshire RFU publishes its response |
12 weeks of actively opposing the Warwickshire
‘Improvement Plan’ has come to a close with the successful
protest march from Warwickshire Racecourse to the Shire Hall on
Sunday 6th December. In a fight such as this, significant public
support, as demonstrated at the march is essential to a successful
campaign. Furthermore if consultation has any value at all and we
believe it does then the Fire Authority must take heed of public
opinion and reconsider the proposal in full.
12 weeks in which Service Management
and Fire Authority members have completely failed in their endeavours
to convince the general public in Warwickshire that their plan will
actually improve the service and create a higher degree of public
safety. Warwickshire RFU has yet to witness any signs of support
for the plan from any quarter and what is absolutely clear is the
opposition at the announcement of the plan has grown significantly
in the last 12 weeks.
Taxpayers and the electorate are not
fools and have become well versed in the arguments against the plan;
many have posed questions at consultation meetings without clear
and concise answers being provided. It would also be fair to suggest
that any response when given has lacked any real conviction which
is even more disturbing. If management cannot justify their own
plan and convince the public of its worth who can?
Without exception there is massive
rejection of a plan which proposes to decimate a vital emergency
service, which would see the loss of Bedworth, Bidford, Brinklow,
Fenny Compton, Kenilworth, Studley and Warwick fire stations and
RDS crews based at Coleshill and Atherstone being removed. Even
if the Authority does not value these stations as assets, the taxpayers
and the electorate do and should be listened to.
