Exploding
the Myths
There are many preconceived
ideas as to what the RFU can do for its members. All too often we
heard the same old quotes;
The RFU has no teeth
due to its 'No-Strike' constitution
FACT
- In both national strikes (1977 and 2002/3) FBU members returned
to work with the union agreeing to worse conditions of service than
before they went on strike.
FACT
- In the national strike of 2002/3 over 12,000 RDS personnel worked
as normal (including some FBU members).
FACT
- The FBU in Suffolk undertook 22 days of strike action in 2005
and nobody noticed.
FACT - Disputes in
the Fire Service are always resolved around the negotiating
table.
The RFU prefers not to put the public's
safety at risk but to start and finish with meaningful talks with
the Employers using the power of argument rather than the argument
of power.
The RFU in
Scotland work tirelessly and against great odds to represent its
members. If you would like to join or become involved please let
us know.
