The RFU is deeply saddened by the news that a fellow firefighter has died and three others are missing after a fire in a warehouse in Atherstone on Stour, near Stratford upon Avon.

The fire happened at a vegetable warehouse on the Atherstone Industrial Estate and is believed to have started just after 18.00hrs on Friday 2 November. Crews from Warwickshire, Hereford & Worcester and the West Midlands were called to the fire, which they were tackling through the night.

RFU General Secretary, John Barton said:

"We are saddened and shocked to receive the news that a fellow firefighter has died and that three others are missing. The friends and families of those involved are in our thoughts during this tragic time. These events provide yet another example of the dangers faced by fire crews across the UK and why they are so highly regarded by those whom they serve.”
