MP opens debate on the role of Retained Firefighters

Member of Parliament for North Warwickshire and Bedworth, Dan Byles will open a debate at Westminster on Wednesday 14 July regarding the role of Retained Firefighters.

Mr Byles has been extremely supportive of our campaign to oppose the closure of 7 Retained Fire Stations in Warwickshire and we welcome the debate due to take place in the Main Chamber on Wednesday.

It is most refreshing that an MP takes such as interest in the Fire Service and specifically the Retained Duty System. The RFU has provided Mr Byles with various pieces of statistical information relating to the RDS which highlights the massive contribution retained personnel make towards protecting and educating their local communities. It is hoped that this is the beginning of a process of raising the profile of Retained Firefighters who, even now in some cases are still treated as inferior compared to their Wholetime colleagues.
