The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has commissioned ICM, the independent research organisation, to undertake a study of a sample of firefighters who are currently serving and who have left the service in England. The aim of the research is to investigate the workplace experiences of firefighters so the service can develop effective policies and practical approaches to tackle a number of key issues including the working environment, unacceptable behaviour of colleagues, opportunities for development, career progression etc. The project, which has the support of the FBU, RFU, CFOA, FOA and Networking Women in the Fire Service, will be published in the summer of 2007. To help us with this research, we should appreciate it if you would complete this CONFIDENTIAL QUESTIONNAIRE and return it in the freepost envelope by FRIDAY 27th JULY 2007. Under no circumstances should the questionnaire be returned to anyone in the fire service. ICM has been conducting independent research for more than 20 years and will be conducting this project under the Market Research Society’s guidelines. As a result, no one in your fire service or the DCLG will know if you respond to the survey or what you write in the survey. Please note that due to incomplete records a small number of firefighters may have been identified as having left the service when in fact they have transferred to another FRS. As there are different versions of the questionnaire for serving and ex firefighters if you are one of those persons concerned then please contact Martin Boon at ICM on 020 7845 8300 and a correct questionnaire will be issued to you. If you have any queries about this research, please contact Mark Dunn at the Department for Communities and Local Government on 020 7944 4400 ext 15436. If you have any queries about the questionnaire, please contact Martin Boon at ICM on 020 7845 8300 |
